We installed the gate using tension only. We specifically purchased this gate because we did not want to have to screw into the wall. We followed the instructions, however when the gate is tight enough to the walls to not slide, the door becomes too tight. We need both hands to open it. I prefer the Summer Infant door mechanism. I think perhaps if we had used the cups that screw into the wall, we wouldn't have had to make the tension so tight and it would have opened with one hand. That said, it functions like it needs to, keeping our little one out of the kitchen while I'm cooking.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Oh god Dreambaby Pressure Mount Hallway Gate with Extensions, White

This item appeared to be made very well. It fit the space perfect and the door automatically closed and latched. The one issue is that the top latch never properly aligned and locked. Pressure mounted gates require you to tighten the gate in order for the door to line up and appear off before pressure is applied (this wasn't the first pressure gate I've installed). This one did partially lock but the top latch never aligned to fully lock, so I wasn't comfortable leaving the gate in place. The item has since been returned to Amazon and I'm not sure whether to try another or not. I do prefer the The First Years Hands ... I just installed my new gate. First, you HAVE to screw it into the wall as you can't tighten the top without blocking the door (I accidentally snapped the handle due to pressure, thankfully the handle still works). Second,once installed it looked great until I opened the cat door and my 45lb Aussie Shepard/Spaniel mix jumped through the cat door.
