While this is a great first home for most exotics, I do not recommend this product for chinchillas. The wheel: My chinchilla almost lost his leg in the wheel - the wheel's construction is almost "mesh" like, and the chinnie's little feet easily get caught in the holes and can possibly get broken. Another thing I was told later is that the bars on the outside of wheels like this can also break the neck of the creature running on it if they move the wrong way.The plastic: By now, I've learned that plastic is a BIG no-no with my (or any) chinchilla.
